●● Anorexia ? ●●
Be it ANOREXIA NERVOSA or ANOREXIA BULIMIA, both of these 2 eating disorders are classified under psychiatric disorders.
There has been alot of talk about TAF (TRIM AND FIT) programme. However, there is a stigma formed regarding this TAF programme and I seriously questioned if its more harmful than beneficial.
TAF has been seen as FAT programme (*if you inverse the TAF). Students enrolled in this programme has been labeled FAT literally by this TAF programme. STIGMA ~
If it is so, who wants to be associated with this TAF programme? Students are scared, afraid to be intimidated by others, worried to be taunted as 'being big, fat, pig, ah-bui, xiao-pang".
Exercise is one of the key components to a slim, healthy figure. Perhaps, schools can involve everyone in interesting and fun exercises instead of isolating the few overweight kids.
If everyone is playing, hey, isn't that more 'hip' and fun to exercise?
And the poor kid will not be the only one left behind during recess to run rounds. I seriously think he/she will be more motivated to exercise with friends. "I'm not seen as fat. My friends are running too. We are active youngsters, not overweight kids."
Anyway, back to the topic of FAT programme, Ooops.. TAF programme, some children are driven to extreme measures like purging after every meal (Bulimia) or decided to see food as enemies and stop consumption of food at all (Nervosa).
It's scary to see food as enemies because you don't know what troubles you are in for when you start having ANOREXIA. They have a distorted image of self. Sometimes, they diet till they are so skinny but they still see themselves as obese.
An endless persistent pursuit of thinness.
Their fave idols are models. It's scary to see how underweight they can go. It's awful to see bones so prominent and body so fragile.. What's most important is that due to the lack of nutrition, their bodies can start to fail. Heart / Lung / Kidney / Liver failures can occur due to severe malnutrition.
The media has its fault for portraying slim ladies as good and fat women as bad. What's worse is when you start eating slimming pills. Such pills have to go through liver to be detoxified. To put our poor liver through tedious process of extra detoxification from the pills is gonna be bad news to our liver.
Overtime, hepatocytes (liver cells) can get damaged due to buildup of toxins from the pills which may lead to liver failure. Hohoho. Liver failure can cause a buildup of toxins in bloodstream due to the failure to remove them. This may lead to toxemia (presence of bacterial toxins or harmful substances in our blood). Death can occur.
So don't play play with slimming pills. They kill.
So, keep a lookout for your children or your siblings or yourself. Don't get entangled and trapped in this web of thinness pursuit.
You may never get out alive.
