●● What Happened When You're Angry? ●●

When you're fuming mad, damn angry, what will you do to manage your anger?

Do you talk calmly with the person involved?
Do you reflect upon yourself and see if you're in the wrong?
Do you think of other alternatives that would lead to a win-win situation?
Do you walk away first to calm down before talking to him/her?

Or

Do you cry and sob non-stop?
Do you shout at him/her and demand that he/she should listen to you?
Do you slap him/her in the fit of anger?
Do you start a cold war with him/her and refuse to have anything to do with him/her?
Do you gobble 10-over pills down your esophagus and hoped that you will die?
Do you start threatening him/her that you will die if he/she leaves you?

My my.. There are quite a number of ways people deal with anger positively. We call it anger management. Anger management is very common in psychiatric wards. Most people who can't deal positively with their anger will resort to negative coping methods. These negative methods are either self-harming or people-harming.

"Anybody can become angry, that is easy; but to be angry with the right person, and to the right degree, and at the right time, and for the right purpose, and in the right way, that is not within everybody's power, that is not easy." ~ Aristotle

I love to sleep when I'm so fuming mad. Sleeping distracts me totally and when I wake up, heyhey, things seem better and clearer. Anger clouds our ability to think properly. In a fit of anger, we may do things that we never intended to do. We may also say things that hurt. Or we may do things that hurt ourselves or others.

What's the point of doing things to hurt yourself or others? If a guy decides to leave you, his heart has changed. Even if you managed to keep him by yourself by threatening death, that is not real love. That is just pity and concern. Love is earned and built by the couple themselves. Love does not arise from threatening, scolding or endless lies.

To me, i feel that there is no point grieving your heart out for a guy who no longer cares. It is absolutely unnecessary to kill yourself because of him. Would he care if you're dead? Maybe a little. But after a while, he would move on with his life and you will be forgotten. Because in the first place, he had already chose to leave you because you were no longer important to him.

However, if you choose to live on and to lead a fufilling, inspiring and a beautiful life, you will glow in your own happiness. With that, he would wonder why in the world did he give up such an angel. He would regret his decision. And you would have won his heart completely.

I don't know how others may think. But to me, gulping down 10-20+ pills is sad. Why sad? In hospitals, such cases are classified as DO - Drug Overdose. How do we treat DO cases in hospitals?

1: Gastric lavage (Stomach pumping / Washing stomach) may be performed.

If you have seen/performed/experienced it before, you will never try to commit suicide using DO method, probably never again.

Why? It is too traumatizing to have a big tube (Nasogastric tubee) going down your nose/mouth to the stomach. The gagging and uncomfortable sensation is oh-my-god. It is as if you're sticking your finger down your throat. It is grossly uneasy and you will feel like retching because the tube is forcibly put in.

I've seen patients struggling with gastric lavage. They can't talk but their tears keep flowing. One of the side effects of lavage is very-painful-sorethroat due to traumatization. So you can imagine how terrible it is.

2: Activated charcoal may be given.

Activated charcoal is able to reduce 60% of the absorption of poisonous substances. It is a fine black powder given to reduce toxicity. However, the side effects of activated charcoal may be severe constipation or formation of clumps of foreign material.

3: Antidote may be given.

If we could get a history of the name of the drug ingested, we may be able to provide the patient with an antidote for that particular drug.

The above are the treatments for DO cases. However, DO can lead to severe consequences, especially when they can be toxic to the body. The dosage of the drugs can determine if they are medicine or poison. For example, panadol (paracetamol) is an easily available effective medicine for pain or fever. However, in large amount, it can lead to paracetamol-poisoning.

Some of the possible consequences are liver damage, liver failure, kidney failure, bleeding disorders, seizures, abnormal heart rhythms, heart failure, lung failure or even death. The above list are non-exhaustive because different drugs will produce varying consequences.

So, do think about it before you start to pop the pills. Is it worth it to give up your health or your life for others? We can only live once. Why not make full use of our lives to make ourselves happy? Once your health fails or once your life is lost, regrets are too late.

"Time is a companion that goes with us on a journey. It reminds us to cherish each moment, because it will never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we have lived."

Usually people who commit suicide do not actually want to die. They just want to seek attention from people and to seek help from others. You can seek help and attention in many other ways too.

People get irritated or 'immune' if you perform such acts too often. Seek help in a proper way. Call the person involved to talk things out. Ask him/her what exactly is he/she thinking. Are there any other alternatives?

In the end, you may not feel hurt. But the ones who are hurt most are your parents, the ones who brought you to this earth because they want you to be happy and not to be sad. No one feels the greatest impact than your parents for they are the ones who will never abandon you, the ones who will never give up on you. Do spare a thought for them. Stop indulging in selfish acts that will hurt yourself and others.

For others out there, do what you can to help them (if you have friends who are suicide-prone.) Listen to them. Listening may seem like a simple easy task. However, it takes alot of sincerity and effort to listen. Lend them your ears. It helps.

There are so many patients (esp. in children's wards) struggling to live on everyday. To them, every morning is a gift from heaven, every day is so treasured because they do not know when they will never wake up.

In comparison, you are so healthy (and you should thank your parents for that), and you are trying to give up your life. Don't you think you should reflect upon yourself?

Ending here with:

"Happiness is nothing more than good health and a bad memory."

How true this is. Perhaps, we should all learn how and when to let go and forget. ^_^
