Edison no Haha <エジソンの母>
I fell in love with this little boy. Shimizu Yuya, starred as 'Hanafusa Kento', first-grader in Monbu Elementary School. He's a very very very very very very very very adorable boy with a huge sense of curiosity. He will never left anything passed him without clarifying his doubts, even if it means getting into troubles. The guardians of other children dislike him and once, a teacher said that his brain was rotten. However, his mother patiently care for and believe in him.
Kento reminded me of the reason why we are all learning each day. I really love him a lot!! He's so cute, with such pinchable cheeks and a truly interesting attitude.
And anyone aspiring to be a teacher would be inspired by this show. Our education system is truly similar to that of the Japanese's system, as expected of an Asian culture. Students are expected to be 'good'. The definition of a good student is one who doesn't disturb the class order, one who doesn't question the teacher or rules, one who should sit quietly with hands on the lap.
I'm very affected by this definition. It's indeed true that the Western countries inculcate a different studying culture. Students are free to criticise the teachers or theories. And in fact, they encourage such interactions in class.
That's probably why I love studying in Sydney. It was so refreshing from our usual style. At the beginning, we were all taken aback and rather afraid to approach. Before we knew it, we were all engaging actively in all our classes, selecting various literatures and researches, critiquing their validities or research methods. It was intriguing debating with one another, squeezing our braincells and considering theories from varying perspectives.
It will indeed be absolutely dejecting if I live life as it passes. There are just so much that I still want to learn. And it will be so fun raising such a kid :)
This j-drama was inspired by the background of Thomas Edison.
The Story of Thomas Edison
In school, the young Edison's mind often wandered, and his teacher, the Reverend Engle, was overheard calling him "rotted." This ended Edison's three months of official schooling. He recalled later, "My mother was the making of me. She was so true, so sure of me; and I felt I had something to live for, someone I must not disappoint." His mother then home schooled him.
'Hanafusa Aoi' and 'Hanafusa Kento'
'Noriko-sensei' and 'Kento-kun' - First day in school
'Assistant Professor' who was so interested in this prodigy
Kento was busy asking why '1+1=2'. According to him, '1+1' is more than 2.
Kento tried to jump off the building because he was interested why birds could fly but humans couldn't.
!!! So lovable!!
Kento was talking to a mathematician, a genius with regards to the structure of the Universe.
Kento was trying to invent a time machine and he thought he teleported.
Kento read about the solar system and was shocked to find that the Sun will die in 5 billions years time.
Kento explained the theory to his classmates and all of them wanted to protect Earth.
They were all having fun!!
All of them wanted to do 'Little Red Riding Hood' and changed the storyline. Kento helped by contributing an intelligent paradox thought up by himself.
The goose explaining to little Red Riding Hood. Hee, she likes him.
Our little goose!
Noriko sensei! Ito Misaki :)
Cute?? HAHAHA, I think he is so so cute!
All of them are burying a time capsule.
Kento's machine of happiness
Kento was saying 'Sayonara' to his friends because he was forced to leave school. He presented them with his invention (flag-riser) as a good bye gift. It's a machine involving electromagnets and electric charge. He's our Little King of Invention.
He came back to school :)) to study 2nd grade with his friends.
It's amazing how Yuya and the other kids could memorise the script. It was really filled with scientific terms and theories. Definitely listing this show as my fave.

Amidst all my dreams, a part of me wish to be part of Medecins Sans Frontieres, to be able to travel and help people suffering from post-traumatic stress and victims of sexual violence.
This show's really tugging at my heartstrings, re-acquainting me with the reason why I wanted to do psychiatric mental health in the very first place, reminding me not to lose focus amidst all that frenzy.

●● A Different Monday ●●
I had myself dressed up formally for an interview with L*. It was a felt-good interview. But somehow, i didn't have the confidence of getting the position.
I finished the interview early and walked around. I even had time to grab 2 books from the orchard library before meeting darr for dinner @ Food Republic. Both of us were looking so pro forma with our office wear. lol. It dawned upon me that we're in effect getting older. Seemingly working adults.
Well, it undoubtedly is an alternative Monday as compared to my usual routine :)

●● New Year's Coming! ●●
The 2006 year is reaching an end in less than 36 hours. What a twinkling of an eye. How fast. Last year, i was still so worried about my then-soon-to-come australia study trip. And in a blink, i've already completed my degree, with results in my pockets, and back in the luxury of a long vacation in Singapore.
I'm an idler these days, lazy bones in full reverie. I guess it has to do with all the diligence displayed in sydney. After the dashes and crawling through multiple tough situations in life, i've turned into a farm-like pig animal once i'm back in sg.
There's no need to wake up early in the morning to type essays nor rush to read references and literatures in the midst of nights. Now, i'm a proud teebee addict, watching telly all day and 'chasing' after episodes. Also, im playing my games that i've left stale a year or two ago.
I'm still doing all those household chores and cooking meals. I guess this part of life is still very much instilled in me. One of the phenomenous learning experiences in sydney was the household chores. Everything was done by myself, me alone fullstop. No one would help or i should say, no one could help. And i was forced to cook my own meals. I used to learn home economics. All those little strands of memories were being dug out to use when i was living in my own labryinth in sydney. Weird tasting food were commonplace in those first cooking instances. Then, i began to cook food rated as delicious by my own standards.
However, as the semesters went on, i had became a vegan. I no longer cooked meat. I was all fruits and berries and veggies. Oh, and nuts too. Macadamia, hazel, brazil, almond nuts. Lots of 'em. And i love mushrooms. Honey, tea, sugarless soymilk or skim milk. Loads of them make my day :) They are as tasty as macdonalds and coke to others (*especiallly mr.gary). My aunties thought i didn't have enough money to eat. It wasn't because i was poor. I was in fact enjoying my life, but in a healthier kind of way. Gorging myself with lobsters or abalones just isn't appealing.
Life in sydney could only be described with one word: "Independent". Everything and every possible situations were surrounded and encompassed with pure independence, i would say blatant to a certain extent. I loved it and hated it. What a love-hate situation especially with regards to making decisions. But indeed, i've learnt the wisest ways of living alone. It was good, lots of macadamia nuts in macadamia icecream kind-of-goodness :) even though life could be hard, and i do mean really biting bitter hard at times.
No wonder they say children are grass without their mommys around. I'm definitely one of such kids. No one to protect me in the lashing storms or snows or baddies.
But amidst all, i've grown up :) and i love the feeling that i've accomplished something major before age 21. Forces me to wise up before stepping into the real corporate world of evil beings lurking around to damage me. Anyway, sydney wasn't all about tonnes of essays, sleepless nights, household chores or baddies. It's also about friendship and love.
I've met some of the greatest friends on earth and i'm glad to have been able to engage and participate in their lives and of course, them in my life too. Struggling and working hard all together. Each and everyone jumbled in each other's care and concern. Cooking for each other. Feeding each other with medicine when we're sick. Lots of telephone calls between rooms. Shopping too. Just pure girlish madness that i would missed so dearly. Peiying, Phyllis, Jeana, Aloysius, Clarence. Just some of the greatest frens ever. And also Siti and Raychel.
My besties continue to be my bestest companions in life. My amazing BBQ birthday celebration, my havoc cycling experience, all those toopid fun and jokes. I'm so glad to be back, right here in singapore.
And love. L.O.V.E. isn't all that smoothsailing. I've learnt to love alot more, to miss alot more and to communicate even more with my dearest dear. Long Distance Relationship LDR is definitely MILLIONs times more difficult to maintain. To me, maintaining a relationship is deemed more meaningful than creating new ones. But to be able to continue supporting each other despite being so far away, technology joys such as the internet and phone play such exigent roles. I can't help but embrace the PROS of technology whilst i was in sydney. For christ's sake, without internet, i would probably mutate into flintstone.
Still, the couple themselves must be able to handle the stress and the loneliness. I've seen my friends' relationships go up and downhills with each returning or leaving trips. Sometimes, i can't help but wonder if love is all that fragile. Men change, and their hearts change. What an awful disappointment if one should discover that their love aren't that enduring to withstand physical distance and emotional challenges.
But this time round, love did went downs then uphills for the both of us. It was really horrible adapting to a new life without anyone familiar around me, especially his presence. Others became closer. Priorities changed. Life was basically a mess, and i was trying to stand up above all those swamps. However, when he continued to be there even through my most wilful hormonal tantrums, coldness, crying and yelling, i just have to love him SO much! Thanks darr :) You're my most inspiring colorful RAINBOW :) Being together means a promise to witness each other's life, such that no part of our lives will pass by and go unnoticed.
And with this, i summarised and reflected my 9 months in sydney. I definitely miss it. It's really metropolitan and cultural, but most of all, i still prefer singapore where all my heart is. With the new 2007 coming, i just have to make some resolutions for the year!

●● Partners and Marriage ●●
Extracted from: PARTNERS AND MARRIAGE I did not want to make a mistake. I saw my friends get married for reasons of social acceptability, or sexual fever, or just because they thought it was the logical thing to do. Then I watched, as they and their partners became embittered and petty in their dealings with each other. I looked at older couples and saw, at best, mutual toleration of each other. I imagined a lifetime of loveless nights and bickering days and could not imagine subjecting myself or someone else to such a fate. And yet, on rare occasions, I would see old couples who somehow seemed to glow in each other’s presence. They seemed really in love, not just dependent upon each other and tolerant of each other’s foibles. It was an astounding sight, and it seemed impossible. How, I asked myself, can they have survived so many years of sameness, so much irritation at the others habits? What keeps love alive in them, when most of us seem unable to even stay together, much less love each other? The central secret seems to be in choosing well. There is something to the claim of fundamental compatibility. Good people can create a bad relationship, even though they both dearly want the relationship to succeed. It is important to find someone with whom you can create a good relationship from the outset. Unfortunately, it is hard to see clearly in the early stages. Sexual hunger draws you to each other and colours the way you see yourselves together. It blinds you to the thousands of little things by which relationships eventually survive or fail. You need to find a way to see beyond this initial overwhelming sexual fascination. Some people choose to involve themselves sexually and ride out the most heated period of sexual attraction in order to see what is on the other side. This can work, but it can also leave a trail of wounded hearts. Others deny the sexual side altogether in an attempt to get to know each other apart from their sexuality. But they cannot see clearly, because the presence of unfulfilled sexual desire looms so large that it keeps them from having any normal perception of what life would be like together. The truly lucky people are the ones who manage to become long time friends before they realize they are attracted to each other. They get to know each other’s laughs, passions, sadness, and fears. They see each other at their worst and at their best. They share time together before they get swept up into the entangling intimacy of their sexuality. This is the ideal, but not often possible. If you fall under the spell of your sexual attraction immediately, you need to look beyond it for other keys to compatibility. One of these is laughter. Laughter tells you how much you will enjoy each others company over the long term. If your laughter together is good and healthy, and not at the expense of others, then you have a healthy relationship to the world. Laughter is the child of surprise. If you can make each other laugh, you can always surprise each other. And if you can always surprise each other, you can always keep the world around you new. Beware of a relationship in which there is no laughter. Even the most intimate relationships based only on seriousness have a tendency to turn sour. Over time, sharing a common serious viewpoint on the world tends to turn you against those who do not share the same viewpoint, and your relationship can become based on being critical together. After laughter, look for a partner who deals with the world in a way you respect. When two people first get together, they tend to see their relationship as existing only in the space between the two of them. They find each other endlessly fascinating, and the overwhelming power of the emotions they are sharing obscures the outside world. As the relationship ages and grows, the outside world becomes important again. If your partner treats people or circumstances in a way you can’t accept, you will inevitably come to grief. Look at the way she cares for others and deals with the daily affairs of life. If that makes you love her more, your love will grow. If it does not, be careful. If you do not respect the way you each deal with the world around you, eventually the two of you will not respect each other. Look also at how your partner confronts the mysteries of life. We live on the cusp of poetry and practicality, and the real life of the heart resides in the poetic. If one of you is deeply affected by the mystery of the unseen in life and relationships, while the other is drawn only to the literal and the practical, you must take care that the distance does not become an unbridgeable gap that leaves you each feeling isolated and misunderstood. There are many other keys, but you must find them by yourself. We all have unchangeable parts of our hearts that we will not betray and private commitments to a vision of life that we will not deny. If you fall in love with someone who cannot nourish those inviolable parts of you, or if you cannot nourish them in her, you will find yourselves growing further apart until you live in separate worlds where you share the business of life, but never touch each other where the heart lives and dreams. From there it is only a small leap to the cataloguing of petty hurts and daily failures that leaves so many couples bitter and unsatisfied with their mates. So choose carefully and well. If you do, you will have chosen a partner with whom you can grow, and then the real miracle of marriage can take place in your hearts. I pick my words carefully when I speak of a miracle. But I think it is not too strong a word. Labels: ENVISAGE, WEDDING Bells

●● On My Way Home ●●
I'm on my way home back to singapore. My last few hours left in Australia, Sydney. I've finished packing my 1096. AND I MISS IT OH SO MUCH. It's my small haven, where i've been stuck here for the past year, spinning pages and pages of essays. It's where i cooked and lived all by my own. My very own independence and space. But i know, back home, i have all my loved ones waiting for me and i cant wait to be back :) Labels: ENVISAGE

One becomes so cognizant with time lived balanced against time left. There is an urgency: so much yet to learn, to experience, to share, and so little time. Those who love life the most may feel the acuity of it.

I saw an old friend on friendster. When i think back, i wonder why the both of us ended up so distant from one another. We used to be together wherever we went. Labels: ENVISAGE
Years have passed. When we saw each other on the streets, we pretended not to know each other. So sad right? I wonder what went wrong. Maybe it's purely a girl's stubborn pride. She just went ballistic over my results. I bet all my macadamia nuts that she was never meant to be. True friends don't do that to one another. I know pei wouldn't. That's why she's my bestest ever girly bestie. mmuaCk.

I had a great chat with wendy, my missing friend. It's been so long, many donkey years since we last met up. It was years ago when we were still little girls, playing barbie dolls and games together. Now, she's studying Physician Assistant (PA) in USA, New Jersey. Labels: ENVISAGE
I came to realise that as the little boys and girls of those years grow up, we venture in various diverse life and career paths. It's amazing :) I wonder what will happen to each of us 10 years down the road.

Will pei be traveling all over the world? *visit me k!*
Will hanx be having his gigantic business empire in cambodia, with us working in his company? *!!!*
Will peisheng be married with little peisheng and little angie running around the house? *:p*
Will jia be a happy kindergarten teacher? *:)*
Will aiai be a happy housewife, reading comics everyday? *my dream too!*
Will ying be a happy nurse educator or clinician, teaching young nursing students? *maybe become ADN or DON of CGH. haha :)*
And where will i be? Hopefully i will be happily playing with little children :)

Today is the first and last paper of my first semester. Totally traumatised. Couldn't finish the paper. I started writing in a mad haste speed, writing continuously for the past 3 hours, but yet i still couldn't finish that damn medsurg paper. This is the fist time i'm suffering from such muscleache for writing so much and so fast. *!!!* Labels: ENVISAGE, SCHOOL Days
Argh. Nevermind. I couldn't care less, for i was so glad that all the suffering for this semester is gonna end. We had dinner at a thai restaurant, near king street.
Afterwhich, the girls had a mini gathering at miss phyllis' room. I'm gonna miss phyllis alot when she moves out. The 3 of us (ying, phyllis and I) had grew close to one another amidst our piteous struggle to finish those god-damn essays.
Phyllis has been the most straight forward, crazy crazier craziest girl that i've ever seen, 3 years my senior, she's trained in peds OT. Super powerful girl. You'll never be bored around her.
Ying has been the most gentle and kindhearted girl, i don't understand why people would label her as quiet, i think she has quite a personality and can be just as noisy *esp when she nags me*. Haaha :) We're gonna be stuck together for the next semester, and im looking forward to school with her :) mmuack!
This semester has been such a rollercoaster ride, up and down, twist and turn. Hell lots of suffering in silence. But it's alright. It's all going to make me a stronger girl.

●● X Times ●●
It's been x times since i have not slept. I finished all my 3 reports in one night :) I'm actually pretty amazed at myself. Lol. Tired. Really tired. But yet despite all the night of hard work, things just didn't go as smoothly as we wanted them to be. Hiccups along the way, and we couldn't get our work done. Labels: ENVISAGE
*We needed someone to sign our reports for us when we finished them. But yet, today, either we put andrea aeroplane or she put us aeroplane. I also don't know liao.*
I realized in this semester, life has been so so so exceptionally hectic, until the point of being repulsively breathless. You know the feeling of running after people? Running and running, trying so hard, but yet, i still seem so far away, so far behind. I can't help feeling helpless and lost. I guess, studying abroad isn't all that "pink and pretty" (Gan 2006), i guess it's really up and down, like a horrible nauseating roller coaster ride.
I've to get used to living a life alone with just a click of the finger, and then i have to fit myself into the culture here after experiencing a stunning culture shock. I didn't have much time to dwell and whine about it, and then off i rushed to school and tried to settle down in university.
When students took a few years to get used to uni's pace, i have only 3 months to get used to. Not only that, we're producing essays like factories. Everyday wake up type, type type, sleep, wake up type again.
Not only academically, we also have to learn to handle our emotions. Being so far away from home, the surge of loneliness is huge at times, overwhelming and overpowering. And no one close is near to you to give you a hug when you're down and trodden. No one. Alone. Just me here.
And suddenly comes some 'politics' and complicated relationships that totally confused me, leaving me so staggered and upset.
But im so glad that despite all that, i have people dear to my heart supporting me, rooting for me, i know you are. daa, pei, hanx, sheng, ty, jia, aiai, tricia, zee, liming and so many of you who will pop me msg to make sure im okie.
And of cos, my one-and-only-ms-gan. She's so powerful that you will have to meet her. Haaha. I really thank god for her, she's godsent to give me that strength of support when im so down and confused here.
You know why? Cos we get confused together. LOL! We always like that one lar. Buey tahan. It's been so amazing how we know each other, and just these 3-4 months, we learnt so much together, we grew together and gaosiao, be silly together.
Yup. She even help me plan my schedule today! But sorry missy-gan, i dont follow abit, i blog first before i study my respiratory system. Lol~
But this is the "last lap" (Gan 2006) already, i will do my best and jiayou! really. i've learnt so much in so little time. Life experiences. make life decisions. Human relationships. Studies. Writing essays. Living by myself. Cooking. Washing up. Basically everything.
But i've never regretted it. I'm glad i came over. I'm at my 20s! This is what i should be doing, going around the world and learning as much as i can. With freedom comes responsibility. I have learnt to live independently, setting up my 2nd home in sydney all by myself. It's been a whole new endeavor. Next semester, i swear to make things right. We will. *plan A* hor, ms gan?
